THE
$2 JACKPOT LOTTERY WON AT RECORD $13.7 MILLION
Tuesday 15 July 2003
The jackpot in the $2 Jackpot Lottery has been finally won at
a record $13.7 million in draw 7915 this morning - the highest
prize paid in a draw lottery since the first lottery was drawn
in 1931.
The winner is a registered player who purchased the entry at
Top Ryde Newsagency at 101 Blaxland Road, Ryde. He is a Sydney
sales manager in his 40's who received the good news from a
NSW Lotteries official in his car on the way to work.
You wouldn't believe it, I had just heard on the radio that
someone had won the $13.7 million jackpot prize in the $2 Jackpot
Lottery, and I thought that is a very, very lucky person, then
my mobile rang," the delighted winner said this morning.
"When he said he was calling from NSW Lotteries, I said,
' You're not ringing to tell me I won the jackpot are you?'
then he told me I'd won the $13.7 million."
The winner, who asked to remain anonymous, is planning to invest
in Sydney's booming real estate market and help set his small
family up for life. "
I'm going to buy my wife the waterfront property she's always
wanted and anything else she wants to fill it up. I also want
to set my family up financially so that we never have to worry
about money in the future," he said
The lucky winner beat odds of 11.8 million to one to win the
huge prize. He won when his ticket, number 100191, won a cash
prize of $10, and was reselected as the jackpot winner in the
same lottery draw.
The jackpot run lasted an amazing 177 draws since it was last
won in draw 7738 in November last year.
In the process it smashed the old record of $10.35 million set
in March 1999 by $3.35 million. That run actually lasted longer
- 197 draws - because the jackpot now builds much more quickly
because of a new game structure introduced in April last year
which increased the jackpot by $75,000 each draw instead of
the former $50,000 increment.
More than 35 million tickets were sold in the jackpot run and
more than $46 million paid out in prizes, including a $100,000
first prize in each draw.
